More Than Magic

Speaking:
Amber Hager
Sermon Series:
Pentecost Sunday

Sermon Description:
Today is Pentecost, the day in which we celebrate the Holy Spirit miraculously entering our lives, fulfilling the promises of Christ. But do any of us really know what it means for the Spirit to be present in our lives? Is this just some hocus pocus magic of a miracle that transforms us every day? Today, we will explore the important role the Holy Spirit plays in our lives and the call to stop running.

Volunteer Central
You are a minister!  God has gifted you with skills and talents.  There is a place in children's ministry for all spiritual gifts.  From hospitality to teaching to giving and leading.  The full range of gifts are utilized in this ministry.

God seeks to bless you and grow your faith through your service to children.  There are wonderful people involved in this minstry too, so an added benefit is getting to know some new Christian brothers and sisters!  All of our ministries are team based so no minister flies alone.

Looking for a place to make a difference? You can in the children's ministry program at St. Matt's!
Current
Minnistry Opportunities:
Current needs include staffing for: Vaction Bible School, June 23-27
Summer Sports Camp, July 14-18
Tilikum Camp for drivers and youth counselors, July 28th - August 1st

First Serve Opportunities: These are opportunities to "try out" a ministry area in Children and Family Ministry with a current minister olong side.  These opportunities are available in all areas of our ministry and there are experienced mentors available to walk you through this experience so you can seek the service area God intends for you.

Bookstore/Resource Center Team:  Join our resource center team Sunday mornings. Help staff our resource center for an hour or two each month.  If you enjoy books and have limited time to commit this is a great job for you! You can just try it out once and see if this is for you.

Sunday morning office staff:  This person staffs our office to welcome people, direct families to classes, collect forms, help maintain supplies, make copies, collect attendence and offering and other office duties.  You can serve one or two times per month or every week!

Grade School Shepherd: Shepherds join a small group of children 1st through 5th grade in Sunday morning Sunday school class.  Shepherds build relationship with and among the group.  They serve as faith mentors simply by being available, authentic and affirming.

Grade School Teaching Team: Teachers work together to use unit curriculum to teach lessons to 1st through 5th grade students.  Some of our lessons are large group based and include skits, object lessons or video presentations.  Some of our units include rotational curriculum including a variety of lessons like art, games, Bible study, skits, puppetry, or cooking.  There is truly something for every teacher as well as student!

Pre-school/Kindergarten Co-teacher:  Teaching teams use Gospel Light Curriculum, an engaging, fun set of lessons that take children through the important Bible stories of our faith during the three years of pre-school through kindergarten.

All volunteers who work with children are required to complete a background check, application, and safety training. Security and safety are an important part of our service to our children.  We provide training and on-going equipping events for all involved in ministry with and to children.  Contact Janee Walker at 503-644-9148 or by e-mail at janeew@stmatthewlutheran.org
